Travelling, on your free city bike, from the south to down town Rotterdam, take the Hef (the old iron railway bridge) and then the red painted Willemsbrug. Now you are really in for a treat: Rotterdam’s Skyline. Or, as we like to say: ‘Manhattan aan de Maas’. As I often cycle and look at the Dutch skies with the majestic buildings, I realize: There is no place like home.
Rotterdam has so much to offer. Like the oldest theatre in town (over a 100 years old), lot’s of galleries, museums (Kunsthal, Boijmans van Beuningen, Nederlands Fotomuseum and also a Pinball museum).
Of course many fine restaurants for instance at the Parisian-like Witte de With. For a delicious cocktail with Pintxos go to Pix (Pannekoekstraat) or the NHOW Hotel to watch the sunset. Over the last few years, many small (vegan) restaurants popped up, so for a energizing start of the day, you go to (Picknick) and of course for a fresh made strawberry smoothie pay a visit to Sajoer, Sappi or Pure Juice.
Like shopping? I advice you to stay away from the Lijnbaan, but visit the shops located in the surrounding areas, like Meent, or Van Oldenbarneveldstraat and Pannekoekstraat.
I almost forgot! For a Dutch bakkie you go to: Coffeelicious, Lilith Coffee, or for our famous carrot cake you go to KOEKELA, or to Dudok to try their delicious Apple pie!
So in case you are looking for a great city trip: I suggest Rotterdam!
